Meet the people behind OIR!
“Opera InReach, to me, is an investment into the future generations of opera goers and creators. It means crafting safe and inviting opportunities for access to those who have been excluded. It means repositioning opera in a way that inspires newcomers to see the possibility that their stories could be an opera. Opera InReach believes by giving tools and support to the younger generation, we can empower them to help opera evolve and grow.”

“Opera InReach is shaping the future of opera and inspiring the next generation of opera artists across Canada. I am proud to be part of this great initiative whose values lie strongly in accessibility and equality.”
“Opera InReach represents a grassroots outreach program that is dedicated to creating space for everyone to become involved in where they are at. No matter what your skillset is, no matter what your background is, no matter where you are in this country, Opera InReach is inviting students to join us in this all-encompassing, larger-than-life artistic experience. Opera InReach goes beyond a typical outreach program and trying to convince people that opera is good, and instead opens the door for kids to experience the genre on their own terms and respond in their own ways.”
“To me, Opera in Reach means growing a healthy future for opera which reflects the diverse voices that make up our artistic community. It means creating pathways into our art form for everyone, especially those who may have previously been excluded, oppressed, or denied access to our community. OIR makes it clear that opera is for everyone.”
“Opera InReach, for me, is the validation that opera is a vessel for creativity for all. Opera has the power to be political and can serve its society in ways that speech and movement alone, fail to. However, in order for that service to be authentic, everyone needs to be able to access the artform equitably regardless of their perceived status in society. These are the values that we carry as we push for a progressive opera sector, one that would welcome all future opera-goers.”
